A Simple Life
By: Dani and Grammy
I'm learning to live a simple life, save money, and live a healthy lifestyle. These are some of the things Grammy and I do every day to reduce stress and have more time and money.
We love to bake bread! We use a couple different recipes. Our every day bread is soft, sweet, and so delicious. Grammy found the best recipe at Esther's place. Esther and her family live in a yurt all year long. They live a simple life. They even sew their own undies!
I like to braid bread. We use a recipe at Food.com. Believe it or not, it only took us 10 minutes to mix the dough and about 10 minutes to braid the bread! Here's all you need:
- All-purpose Flour
- Sesame Seeds or Poppy Seeds, if you want
Kneading bread is fun. Grammy taught me to pray blessings into the dough every time I push down in it. I think that's why everyone likes our bread!
Grammy and I save about $40 a month by baking our own bread. We also make our own laundry detergent, which saves us about $120 a year. We also saved a bunch of money by making our own chokecherry syrup.
We save a lot more money than that by cooking simple meals with unprocessed foods. And that saves money on doctor's bills.
We also buy clothes and things we need from a thrift store instead of buying from the mall. Yesterday we found some really great books and clothes for only $6.50. Some of the clothes were a really expensive brand.
This is part of my homeschool. I am learning how to save money by not spending so much. I'm also learning how to save money in a bank account. When you have more time and more money you get to do more of the things you really like to do. You also have more time and money to help others.
It took awhile for us to make these little changes, but now it's just part of our new lifestyle. We have more to discover and more to experiment on, so I'm sure we'll be back with more recipes and ideas.
I hope you share your ideas on living better with less, too!
