“Miracles on Maple Hill” – A Book Report

Miracles on Maple Hill by Virginian Sorensen

Book Report by: Dani

Miracles on Maple Hill takes place after World War II in a rural Northeastern town.

The main characters are:

  1. Marly – She's the youngest in the family and is about 12 years old. She likes nature. She likes flowers. She likes to help with making maple syrup and tasting it.
  2. Joe – He likes to be by himself and explore. He doesn't like his little sister coming with him, to slow him down. He plays in band.
  3. Mr. Chris – He likes animals and going on walks with Marly. He's caring and he watches out for his neighbors. He makes everyone feel special.

This story is about Marly and Joe coming to Maple Hill where their grandmother used to live. They moved into their grandmother's house so they can live in the country.

Their father came home from the war and was not himself. He was angry at everyone. He didn't sing anymore or want to play.

After the family moved to the country their father started fixing the old house and helping Mr. Chris make maple syrup. Pretty soon he began singing again. He wasn't so angry anymore.

Everyone started to be happy again.

I would love to live in Maple Hill and make syrup because it seems like fun. All the neighbors are nice to each other and they sacrifice to help everyone be taken care of. Marly and Joe even sacrificed going to school when Mr. Chris was in the hospital so he wouldn't lose his maple syrup.

I learned that when you are sick in your heart that being close to nature helps you to feel better and that having good friends helps a lot, too. In fact, it was my good friend, Mr. Hendricks, who suggested I read this book. Now I know why!

I would recommend this book to a friend because this family is comforting. I would like to live like this.

I give Miracles on Maple Hill 5 stars! Would you?

Dani and Gramma Sue are on a mission to share happiness with our readers. We have both known the deep pain of life going wrong and the feeling of being powerless. And yet, we are dazzled by the brilliance of God’s Light shining in the darkness and we cannot help but sing, shout, and write about the great things God is doing and about to do!
We love the country, horses, hiking, and exploring God’s world outdoors and through books. We spend most of our days together because we are homeschooling. :)
