Five Minute Friday – Bacon!

Bacon

I'm teaming up with Kate at #FMF (Five Minute Friday) where everyone practices writing together. It's really easy. Just set your timer for 5 minutes. Write on the topic of "bacon" and then share your story. Read what others are writing about bacon. Have fun!

I visited a farm last month to ride horses. And guess what I got to help feed? Pigs!

They were so fat. They were clumsy and fell in the mud when I came to greet them.

I don't like that those pigs were raised to be eaten. I like piggies without having to fatten them up and eat them. I would love to have pigs without having to turn them into bacon.

They are smart. They are cool. And they are funny.

Bye, see you next time!

Gotta go,

Love,

Dani

I like to buy fresh food from farmers who treat their animals well, who don't treat animals disrespectfully, as much as possible. There's some awful that happens when we make food factory-style. I don't really like to eat meat anymore either, but I know my body needs some… so we do the best we can to promote people who treat the earth with respect, especially fellow humans and animals!

I really did enjoy my BLT sandwich this afternoon, but it caused me to wonder…

Hi, Dani! I really enjoyed reading your post for Five Minute Friday. It shows that you care about animals and their lives. I think a lot of people feel the same way you do about eating pork, knowing that pigs are intelligent creatures. We only eat bacon a few times a year and I always feel a little guilty, but I confess that I really enjoy the taste… I'm glad the pigs you fed get to live on a real farm, not a feed lot. The picture you posted is great; those pigs definitely look the way you described – smart, cool, funny – and muddy!
