Cupcake Wars!

Today is Cupcake Wars! I love my Food Science class!

In science class we learned the difference between dough and batter. It was exciting because every night I watch Cupcake Wars on Netflix. So you know I just had to make cupcakes today! Here's my family recipe!

Spice Cake Recipe

1 1/2 c Cane Sugar                    2 c Flour

1/2 c Shortening                         1 t Baking Powder

2 Eggs                                        1 1/2 t Cinnamon

1/2 t Salt                                     3/4 t Nutmeg

1 1/2 c Milk                                 3/4 t Allspice

                                                   3/4 t Cloves

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Mix all ingredients, slowly at first, for 3-4 minutes. Scoop into cupcake tins. Bake for 30 minutes or until you can stick a toothpick in the center and it comes out clean.

Well what I made today is a spice cake on the boottom and a white vanilla frosting with a drizzel of a blue berry in one tray. The other tray has the same stuff in it but with a different drizzel. I have two trays of different drizzels!

When I saw that we were going do dough today I thought we could do cupcakes becouse I watch cupcake wars a lot. I will take the information that i got from Cupcake Wars to put it on my blog! And I hope you like this recipe.

While my cupcakes are baking I'll tell you what I learned about making batter. Batter is flour and water mixed with other ingredients like salt, yeast, or eggs. There is more water than flour in batter. If it's dough, then there is more flour than water. But they are pretty much the same ingredients.

Flour is made from wheat. There are different kinds of flour. Some has more protein. Some has more gluten. So it all depends on what you are making. Here's one of the videos we watched in class.

Then we learned how gluten makes the dough like elastic and glue.

Next is my favorite part. I'm going to show you how I frost these cupcakes! Here's the recipe.

Vanilla Frosting from Betty Crocker

3 c Powdered Sugar                    1 1/2 t Vanilla Extract

1/3 c Softened Butter                   1-2 T Milk

Beat until fluffy and just right. Put in a plastic bag and cut a corner out of the bottom. Squeeze the frosting on the cupcakes.

Next you can drizzel whatever flavor you like. I'm using blueberries and bananas.
